VP of Engineering

Santa Monica, CA, United States of America (Remote)

Home From College (H\FC) is building the infrastructure for how Gen Z connects with work, brands, and their future. Backed by Google Ventures and working with leading companies like Uber, Poppi, Linktree, and Etsy, we’re reimagining what early career building looks like—giving students real, paid opportunities that match their lifestyle and ambition.

From GIGs and brand ambassador programs to long-term career growth, H\FC is becoming the go-to platform for students and the brands who want to engage for business building impact. Our mission is simple but bold: empower students to monetize their time and talents—without needing a six-page resume or years of experience.

About the Role

We’re looking for a VP of Engineering to architect the next chapter of our platform and lead our growing engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to join at a defining moment—where product-market fit is real, the roadmap is ambitious, and the systems you build will shape how thousands (soon millions) of students launch their careers.

You'll work directly with our CEO and leadership team to set the technical vision, scale our infrastructure, and ship high-impact features across web, mobile, and AI-powered experiences. From backend architecture and data pipelines to recommendation systems and creator-facing tools—you’ll be at the center of it all.

We’re not just looking for a manager—we’re looking for a builder. Someone who’s excited to get hands-on, build a high-performing team, and create a platform that’s both scalable and delightful to use.

If you’re driven by impact, love solving real-world problems, and want to build tech that empowers the next generation of talent—you’ll thrive here.

What You'll Do

  • Leadership & Team Building: Hire, mentor, and retain a high-performing engineering team. Build a culture of ownership, innovation, and execution.

  • Technical Strategy: Define and execute on H\FC’s engineering vision, ensuring alignment with product roadmap, growth goals, and long-term platform scalability.

  • Collaboration: Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, Marketing, and RevOps to deliver high-impact features across web, mobile, and AI-driven infrastructure.

  • Platform Ownership: Oversee development of H\FC’s core platform (student experience, brand dashboard, payments, matching algorithms, and integrations).

  • Data & AI Readiness: Champion AI/ML infrastructure that powers intelligent matching, creator recommendations, and operational efficiencies.

  • Systems & Process: Establish strong engineering processes, documentation practices, and security protocols to support speed without sacrificing quality.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role; experience at a high-growth startup or two-sided platform is a plus.

  • Proven track record of building and scaling engineering teams from early stage through rapid growth.

  • Deep experience with modern web technologies (React, Node.js, GCP, Stripe, etc.).

  • Proven experience building and shipping mobile applications (preferably with React Native) at scale, including deployment, performance optimization, and integration with backend systems.

  • Familiarity or interest in applied AI/ML, recommendation systems, or job/talent marketplaces.

  • Strategic thinker who can toggle between high-level vision and hands-on execution.

Collaborative, low-ego, and mission-driven. You care deeply about the impact your work has on students and brands.
